Blog has moved….

I moved the blog off of my server at the house to wordpress.com.  You probably won’t notice anything because I used the same theme as the one on my server.  The only bad thing was that all images were lost when I did this.

Changes on the server

If you have tried to come here lately, you’ve probably noticed it being up and down quite a bit. Well half of it was Charter Communications and the other half was me upgrading the servers operating system. After trying to get Charter to come out and bury the cable that has been running up the road for a year now(which was causing internet connectivity issues because it was being run over daily), I made the jump over to AT&T DSL. I was a little worried that I would miss the 5 meg speed(since I can only get 3 meg with AT&T) but the reliability has already outweighed the small drop in speed. On the server side, I had to do some upgrades(specifically upgrading from Fedora Core 4 to Fedora 7 for those that care) to get my PVR software to work. I use a piece of software called MythTV to record programs but the program listing provider decided to quit providing the listings back on Septemeber 1st. Well the operating system version didn’t support all the functionality I needed to upgrade to the new version of MythTV so I had to upgrade the operating system to get MythTV working with the new program listings provider. Anyways all is well now.

As far as the Beer and Coffee tasting stuff goes I have been keeping a list of the stuff I’ve tried and will update it once I have some time. I also have some William updating to do. I should hopefully be able to update everyone in the next week or so.

Picture location has moved

I’ve noticed some people are still looking for the pictures at the old location. I moved them to here

New location for pictures and videos

I have been for the last 2 years using a dedicated server to host up the pictures and videos at mikeandmel.com but after looking around and pricing things I decided to move the pictures and videos to picasa( http://picasaweb.google.com/smithatlanta ).  This site allows me to put up movies in a format that everyone can view them (much like youtube ).  My mom as well as others had mentioned to me that they could never watch the videos but now they can. 

I also was able to save the $20/month fee for the server.  I now have 7 gig of space for pictures and videos and I pay $20/year for it. 

Another reason I decided to use picasa was that it integrates very well with the new Canon camera I bought Melanie for her birthday.  All she has to do is hook the camera up to the computer(via the usb cable) and picasa pops up and asks if she wants to pull the pictures off the camera.  She can then right click on the picture and send it to the picasa web site.  It works very well.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy the site and I hope to put up more pictures and videos.

New Baby!!!!

William Rutger Smith was born this morning at 12:39.  He weighed 7 lbs 10 ounces and he was 21 inches long.  Melanie and William are doing well and are hoping to come home tomorrow.

No baby yet…

As of  3:30PM,  June 23, There have been no arrivals from the stork.  Melanie is having some discomfort but no contractions.  Hopefully this will change soon as she is very much ready to have this child.  Please William, come out and play.
