New Years Resolutions
Here are my top ten in no order of importance:
1. Spend more quality time with kids.
- Have game night at least once a week. Work on the basics including numbers and letters. Take a camping trip.
2. Travel more.
- Every time I take a trip I realize how much I miss traveling.
3. Get my weight back to 180lbs.
- I was at this weight 2 years ago and I slid back into my old habits. This time I want to develop some habits that will keep me at that weight for
many years to come. I’m going to start by following some of the suggestions in Tim Ferriss’s book the 4 hour body.
4. See more live music.
- I saw Better Than Ezra a couple of weeks ago and realized how much I miss seeing bands live. I’m going to try and get out and
see at least 6 bands live this year.
5. Go to church.
- This is as much for the kids as it is for me. I was brought up in a Christian church and I think it’s a great environment. I could get into this
more but I’ll leave it that I just need to start going again.
6. Read a “Classic” book every month
- I started back in October by reading 1984 and I want to continue reading more books I should have read back in college and high school.
7. Read about and understand a new technology trend each month.
- I subscribed to O’Reilly’s Safari to help with this one. Starting out with Git this month. I need to be persistent with this resolution.
8. Find ways to save more energy
- Continue to car and Vanpool to work. Replace some windows in the house that are leaky. Use TED 5000 to analyze
all major appliances in the house and prioritize replacement.
9. Start a garden
- I have been thinking about doing this for a while and I really have no excuses. I have plenty of space and it would
be a good learning experience for the kids.
10. Learn Ruby and create a decent sized projects that uses it. – I’ve been doing ASP
.Net development for 10 years now and I need a change to get me in that learning mode again.
